No in morse code
Two letters and 5 marks, four of them long. Press Play to hear it and see it blink. On the air, operators often send N alone.

The flashlight needs camera access. Nothing is recorded or sent.
How to blink No with a flashlight
Count a steady beat. A dit (the short signal) is one count of light, and a dah (the long one) is three. Stay dark for one count between flashes and three counts between letters.
- N: one long, one short.
- O: three long flashes.
- Stay dark for seven counts, then start again from the first letter.

No as a morse code bracelet
Each dit is a round bead and each dah a tube three times as long, with a small spacer between letters. For a 7 in bracelet in 3 mm beads: 1 dit bead, 4 dah tubes, 1 spacer and 45 plain beads.
How no is put together
N is a dah and a dit, and O is three dahs. That adds up to 5 marks, four of them dahs, so the word is mostly long notes. At 10 words per minute (WPM), the speed the player starts at, no takes 19 units, about 2 seconds.
How radio operators say no
The International Amateur Radio Union’s operating guide lists N on its own as no. That is two marks, a dah and a dit, against five for the whole word.
ITU-R M.1172, the list of abbreviations for radio at sea, keeps the word whole: it lists NO as no. Sent straight after certain Q codes, NO gives the code a no meaning, as C gives it a yes.
Yes and no side by side
Yes is three letters and 8 marks, and no is two letters and 5. Both start with a dah and a dit. The difference comes on the third mark: Y goes on with two more dahs, while N stops, and the three units of silence before O tell the listener the letter is over.
